Making compensation claims
Compensation amounts
The amounts of compensation you might be awarded are in two parts:Part one
The first part, known as general damages, is for the pain and suffering you have had due to the injury itself. This part of the compensation is calculated by reference to similar awards which have previously been made by the court. Lawyers will look for a case very similar to yours to value the general damages for you.
Part two
The second part, known as special damages, is for all the financial losses you have suffered as a result of the accident, and may suffer in the future if you have not fully recovered. A good example of this is lost earnings. Your solicitor will give you an estimate early on in your claim as to the likely compensation amount you could receive.
