Types of personal injury claim
Criminal injury claim
If you have been injured by someone assaulting you, or while someone else is committing an offence, you may be entitled to receive compensation for your injuries from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).The first step is to make sure you report the attack, assault or incident that caused your injuries to the police without delay. Failure to do this may prevent your criminal injury claim succeeding.
After reporting the incident you should make a claim to the CICA as soon as possible. You can make a criminal injury claim yourself. There are forms to fill in and you will need to describe the accident and your injuries. In some cases you may not be able to succeed in a claim even though the incident was not your fault.
Many people find it very useful to have help in making this type of claim, but you will generally have to pay something for the cost of this service.
